The Book of Spells: A Private Prequel

PrivatetheSeries.com has always been the home of Kate Brian’s bestselling PRIVATE books. It’s also the place to be for fans of Kate’s second bestselling series, PRIVILEGE. Today, this site welcomes another not-to-be-missed new Kate Brian book into the family. The Book of Spells. For those of use who’ve read (and LOVED) Kate Brian’s most recent PRIVATE  book, Vanished, it’s clear that there’s a connection between the Billings Girls of today and the girls who formed The Billings Literary Society back in the early 1900s. But what is it?

The Book of Spells reveals some pretty shocking things about The Billings Literary Society . . . and the coven of girls that formed it. Check out a sample chapter, and get to know the spellbinding Billings Girls of 1915 here.

If you found a book filled with spells, would you try to cast one by yourself?

holy crap what happened to this website LOL. its making me want to read Book of Spells :( and i wasn’t planning on reading it -___-

    • N'nyree says:

You weren’t going to read The Book of Spells? I read a sample of the book and I think that if anyone likes the private series by Kate Brian should read The Book of Spells IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

      • OliverDee says:

OMG Book of spells is really good :-D
        whoever hasn’t read it should
the ending wasnt expected is this the only one or is it gonna be like the Privet & Privileged series???????

        • Kellie says:

i was wondering the same thing. anyone know?

        • MaryC says:

THEY MUST MAKE ANOTHER ONE IF NOT THEN I WILL CRY!!!!! or at least post something about everyone’s family tree cause during the Book of Spells I was guessing who was who’s ancestor

          • AmberB says:

Is the Book of Spells a new series or is it connected to the others? I’m kinda confused on that…?

  2. Sam says:

Wow, Kate, you completely updated the site! lol Nice!! =] But yeah, thanks for the new post, I’ve read and own all of the series so far and can’t wait to get the upcoming prequel and the last few books and stuff. You rock; keep it up! I’m new to the blog and LOVE Private and Privilege. <3

  3. Jessica Krall says:

Well Kate, I like the new website. But you’re missing some things. You’re forgetting about new wallpapers. I am looking forward to getting Book of Secrets and Vanished. I haven’t gotten Vanished yet because I’m kind of unemployed and therefore I must restrict myself from spending much money.

  4. noelle says:

HOLY SHIT! I don’t like the new website at ALL! It looks just like the Pretty Little Liars website!
CONFUSING to me! Anywho y’all excited for Book of Spells???

  5. alyssa says:

Wow, the site doesn’t look too different…compared to the pretty little liars site! it’s like the exact same layout…fine with me I suppose. Does this mean FREQUENT blogs intead of one ever 4 months? Back OT, I can’t wait for The Book of Spells to come out. :)

  6. Kassandra says:

You completely ruined the best book series ever.! This is a load of poop.1st you have reed dump Josh than coincidently noelle and reed are sister I am not even going to finsh the few pages left of vanished becaue I’ll jest be even more disappointed. Guess I am
Gonna have to find a new series without the magic with crap in it.

    • loz says:

pahahaha, the word ‘poop’ made me laugh, btw i so agree with you. i love harry potter but it needs to be seperate from private :(

    • Christiee says:

I have to agreee! I borrowed vanished from a friend and i was itching to finish it so i stayed up until 1 reading it (at school may i add) and i was a little disappointed! It seems to me that you..ran out of ideas?? It was such an intense moment.. and now we’re talking magic? anyways i have loved your books from the beginning but i’ll try book of spells.. to be honest i’ll probably stick with the original private series, REAAAALLY glad you’re continuing with the original ideas!

    • Sara says:

I also agree! This used to be my favorite series, but I feel like I’ll start crying if I continue reading it now that she added freakin’ magic to it :(

      • Alison says:

i dont think the magic idea is that bad. its just something that no one really wanted to see in Private.

      • MaryC says:

ALL OF YOU READ THE D#@!% BOOK OF SPELLS AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND SO STOP COMPLAINING UNTIL YOU ARE DONE READING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Jessie says:

Reed and Josh get back together

      • wishn4adog says:

im sorry but you must must must finish vanished. i don’t know if you want to know what happends but if you do here it is
*(SPOILER ALERT)* reed and josh get back together because josh figures out that she dumped him because of the kidnappers. reed goes to the woods where noelle’s supposed to be, finds noelles perfectly fine then reed goes back to croton. she later finds out that her mom had an affair and reed is half sisters with noelle. her real dad is Mr. Lange. personally i love love love josh and reed together. i think its addicting to read and sweet. i don’t know what my impressions are about reed and noelle being sisters. a nice twist. i read this books in 1-3 days. i love them and can’t put them down.

    • Shady says:

Totally agree, i liked the book and i was waiting for the classic killer shocker in the end, but i must say, i was a little bit dissapointed. Witches? Wow..that i didn’t c comin….I will read the next book but if the storyline about Reed and Josh is over…im not bothering…

    • Chelsea says:

personally i really like the addition of magic. its makes everything much more interesting. if you dont like it then stop complaining and read something else. duhh

  7. jasmine says:

i love the new site! and i think u should gradually add more background info on the private and privilidge characters that wasnt included in the books

  8. Jenna says:

Lol I thought I was on the wrong website when I first saw this.. I like it though, so nicely done! And yes, I’ll admit, I wasn’t too excited for the Book of Spells, but now I kind of am! I’m just wondering, are Reed and Noelle now gonna be witches? I would understand it for back in the 1900s, but not so much now… I don’t think it would make much sense for them to be witches in 2010.

    • J says:

everyone keeps sayin that and there missing the point its not about them being witched its about learning what billings was about and whatnot

  9. Disappointed says:

Kate… seriously. Why ‘witches’? How far fetched can you get? Is Thomas a witch too, Kate? Or is he now a vampire? Will he come back to life and bite Noelle and turn her into a vampire who then goes and bites Ariana whilst trying to give justice for their murder of Thomas? Just make sure you bring it out in a huge ridiculous plot twist in the next book, just so we can feel comforted by the fact that we invested a lot of time and money into reading the first 11 books believing they were about a dark and twisted reality. You know. So we understand that the events which happened previously are as good as redundant.

The series was amazing because it seemed like one of the few out there that WEREN’T about vampires or wizards or magic spells, and now it’s just a carbon copy of the rest of them. Way to sell out… big mistake, you’ve lost a lot of fans.

    Thanks for wasting my time.

    • J says:

omg just shut up ok the book is about learning about billings not anyone be a witch and turnin into witched (dummy)

      • S says:

It’s funny that you’re calling her a dummy, while using “omg”, “be” instead of “being”, and “witched” in the course of one semi-sentence. At least she knows how to voice her opinion while sounding intelligent.

    • jill says:

Oh my gosh, you took the words right out of my mouth. I feel the exact same way, if htat gives you any comfort at all. I’ve been a fan of htese books for say, two, three years and now everything i loved magically went “Poof” (Pun intended in the use of the word magical, though sarcastically.)

    • Megan says:

YOU are being far fetched by saying all that. NO ONE said that they’re witches, you guys are assuming that because there ancestors from like 200 years ago were witches that doesnt mean anything. Don’t start judging and thinking anything just yet without reading Ominous. Because remember, Ominous and book of Spells are two different books about 2 different sets of people. You can have your own opinion obviously, but can you at least wait until Ominous comes out to complain about it?

    • J-anne says:

      I completely disagree with this.

It really is not a waste of time at all. And besides, “you’ve lost a lot of fans?” Come on. Are you serious? Does ” a lot of fans” mean you and that one little person down there?? Because I am really really into these books and so far I’ve only seen one person down there that agrees with you. Kate can do whatever the hell she wants with these books because she knows what will get the reader’s attention. She is an amazing writer who, yes, did put a “twist” into the series. I’m sure that the reason why she put the this magic into the books were put in for a reason.

So Kate can keep doing what she is intending to do.

Oh, and by the way, why doesn’t Disappointed go and write her alteration of this prequel if she thinks it’s so ridiculous? Unless you can think of another story for Billings, I’d suggest you suck it up.

PS: Since they’re such a waste of time and money, send Private and Invitation Only to me; I don’t have those books anymore. :)

      • S says:

Or maybe she’s referring to all the people who are in fact disappointed right now. I just looked at the Amazon reviews for the book, and there are definitely a lot of people who feel like she does right now.
By the way, you sound really hypocritical right now, because you are bashing her for her opinions, while pushing that yours are “right”.

        • Megan says:

well no offense, but you can’t base your opinion off of other peoples reviews. You have to just go out and rent/buy it and figure it out yourself whether YOU think its good. Everyone can have there own opinion, but what is pissing some of us off is people haven’t even read the book yet and there complain about it.. and saying oh its not like the other private books. So? it does sort of take place in the early 19 or 18 hundreds so its not modern time like Private, but some of the people who haven actually read it and are like “well tis okay blahhjfdjf” notice how they can say whatever cause they actually took the time to read it. just trying to make you understand fhdskghk

          • Aly says:

I am agreeing with everyone who said or implied that the book of spells ISNT a total waste of time. i have 3 or 4 friends who read private and none of them think that the Book of Spells is a waste of time just because it is different from the other private books.

          • Jessie says:

            ***SPOILER***
The Book Of Spells really adds depth to the series, and without reading it, you don’t really get the impact of everthing she’s put in Ominous, like the fact that Reed keeps going back and wants to learn more, and Noelle thinks its all crap

      • Chelsea says:

i completely agree i love the books so everyone else can just get over it. :)

    • Jen says:

I agree! I don’t want private to turn into a series about magic. I pray that it doesn’t turn out that Reed and Noelle turn into some witches.

      • Jess says:

I feel that this who book of spells is complete JUNK!
I loved the Private series, now the author ran out of traumatizing things to write about she brings in the WITCH/MAGIC card. Its stupid. If you wanted to play that card you should have done it 12 books ago honey.

Im sorry but you can not write 12 books about teenage drama and then all the sudden bring in some wierd thing about spells.

        • Jessica says:

Ok so I just started and finished Vanished tonight.
I thought it was great like all the other Private novels. In the final chapters I found myself skipping over paragraphs desperately hoping for some resolution to the whole kidnapping ordeal, half accepting the idea that I wouldn’t get one until I read the next book in the series.

Finishing the book I was bluntly and simply freaking disappionted. If my assumptions are correct, the reasons behind the kidnapping have to do with a legacy of witches and black magic.
So Reed Brennan, the relatable charater I have come to love acutally isn’t human… blah blah destiny…everythng happens for a reason…tests…family…magic…lets jump on the end of the Twilight bandwagon and change the way readers view everything that has happened thus far to Miss Brennan.

I love Private and I might give Book of Spells a chance, but I”m not sure. Right now I’m just sad enough to feel the need to share my feelings here.

          • Jessie says:

You have to give the Book of chance, it’s not Twilight, it’s just like all the other books, only with a littlle bit of black magic, it’s actually pretty creepy in a good way, just like the series itself so please try it, even I was a tad skeptical when I read the end of the last book, but I accepted it also, and even though I thought it would be completely weird and different, it’s not at all, you just have to read it for yourself

    • Mattie says:

very funny disappointed… who else DIDN’T like this boook? You need to shut up because it was AMAZING and u are the only one who hated it and u don’t matter compared to the millions of others. Kate is an aamzing author, or should I say Kieran Scott. Who said anything about vampires? And if you read Ominous and Vegeance, everything blends it well as it said because Elizabeth and the others brought Catherine back to life, Reed is cursed and that is why all that crazy stuf happens. It makes sense and if you dont like it, send the book to me cuz it was a library book and i loved it!!!

  10. massiekur says:

wow, this book is pathetic! the clique books are totally better. why you ask? because its all about ME!

    love ya!
    massie block!

  11. jill says:

Wow. What happened to this blog? I miss the old blog, just like I miss the old, normal Private (not that Private was ever quite your normal book, but most of you get what I mean.) At least there’s still Privilege. Sorry, just stating my opinion, and I’m curious if anyone else voices the smae thoughts.

  12. Megan says:

LOL Look, ya’ll need to calm down! First of all, the people complaining about the site, get over it! it’s a site! I was getting sick of the old layout anyways. and who cares if its like pll? It;s just something you need to get used to, not complain about. And this new site actually got me kind of interested in reading Book of Spells now where as before I didn’t even want to read it at all! I’ve seen about the same comments over and over again about Private being “ruined”.
Listen, what you guys need to realize is its obviously not going to be the same like it used to, think logically. Half of the characters have graduated, died, or been committed. Billings is gone. Reed and Josh have been going on and off, It’s not possible to be the “same” from when the books first began in 2007. And someone I believe emailed Kate about the whole witches thing and Kate said, Just because there decedents from witches doesn’t make them actual witches! shes not an idiot guys, come on I think she knows what she is doing. so don’t just be stubborn and decide that “you wont read them anymore” give it a chance and see what Kate has to offer. I know they haven’t been good as they used to, but its a part of life! all good things must come to an end eventually! Just enjoy them as they last.

    • J says:

OMG I love you thank you for getting it unlike most people

    • kk says:

yes totally if you don’t like the site fine if you don’t like the books fine but don’t hate the books because of a prequel that nobody has ever read before and maybe it will be more interesting than other withch books

  13. Ariane says:

THANK YOU!!! Finally someone with good senses!

OF COURSE SHE ISNT AN IDIOT! SHES ACTUALLY BRILLIANT! otherwise why did you guys read all the books so far? huh?

    <3 <3 <3

  14. Justine says:

Getting vanished and a bundle of privledge books for Christmas! I NEED CATCH UP! Is this already on sale? Because it’s getting added to my list. And this looks like the Pretty Little Liars site… Is Kate still writing the blog herself?

  15. Justine says:

    GUys I don’t think it’s about wiches… Haha.

  16. Justine says:

What are these reply things? I don’t think The Pretty Little Liars site has this. Just saying. Because they’re so similar in layout. Curiostity has the best of me. Haha.

  17. Rachel says:

Kate- I really like the new site. Cannot Wait for Book of Spells.

Dosen’t anyone remember the web series?? At the end with the painting and meeting Noelles mom that never made sense to us? Kate has totally been planning this magic thing for a while. I actually kind of like it because I was kind of getting tired of someone always out to get Reed. Brings something new to the series. Also I can believe Noelle and Reed being sisters, Reed had mentioned a couple of times how the two of them looked similar. Remember Dash and the kiss at Martha’s Vineyard.

I seriously need to start reading the Privilege series though didn’t know it was starting to lead back into Private. Is it as good as Private?

  18. Kate says:

So I know this is random….but remember the first book where Reed sees a scar on Noelle’s stomach?! What is the deal with that, is she ever going to explain it?

  19. Caroline says:

    Guys, calm down.

First of all, just because the girls are DESCENDED from witches, doesn’t mean that the Private series will be all supernatural.

Second of all, I’m thinking that this is more about the forming of Billings than the girls’ being witches; that’s just a subplot.

Third of all, and this is just something I’ve noticed, unless I’m missing something, Noelle and Reed AREN’T sisters. Just because they’re descended from the same person doesn’t make them sisters. It’d make them distant cousins. Again, I may be missing something, but that’s my two cents.

  20. Caroline says:

Also, is it me, but does the girl on the cover look like Jessica Szohr?

    • Jessie says:

She really does, I’ve never noticed that though, but the cover looks very nice, it reflects the book perfectly

  21. stella says:

@caroline I agree with you on everything you just said except, noelle and reed are sisters. they share the same father Wallace Lange whom we see in Suspicion and Paradise Lost.

    • Justine says:

They aren’t sisters… Reed went with Noelle’s family to the Island. Reed has her wn dad. Remember in the first book (Second…?) when Noelle convinced Reed to call him and tell him not to come to parents week? I think you’re a tad confused… :P

      • stella says:

no i’m definitely not confused.. lol if you read Vanished it clearly states that they’re sisters at the end…. I know what i’m talking about.

      • jasmine says:

actually they are sisters. have u read vanished? In the last few chapters, it is revealed that Reed’s mom had an affair with noelle’s dad during the time that reed’s parents separated years ago.

        • Justine says:

Oh elf in a cup. This is what happens when you’re behind. You mentioned Suspicion and Paradise Lost so I thought you were referencing those in where you got that fact. Well, sorry ’bout that… I just saw that she found Noelle in an observatory in the last comment on the page… gosh! Wait, separated, not divorced right? Because that wouldn’t make sense since they’re still together and also it wouldn’t be an affair. And that seems like a weird couple eh? Okay you know what? I’m just going to read this as soon as I can- well when I get it for Christmas… if there’s still any surprise left? Haha. Oh well. That’s what I get yeah? :P

          • stella says:

oh sorry about that, I didn’t know you didn’t read it yet :/ I thought you were just arguing with my for no reason im like -__- and yeah Reeds mom and dad were separated for a while and Reeds mom slept with her boss(Noelles dad) and she got pregnant from it, but Reeds dad loved reeds mom so much he didn’t care it wasn’t his and blahblahblafdfd

          • Justine says:

Oh ok. No problem. I’ve spoiled things for others. It happens. Haha. And separated in like taking a break from eachother not waiting for divorce right?

          • stella says:

taking a break yeah, they were never divorced.

          • Justine says:

OKay. Thanks. I will let the rest be a surprise haha.

  22. Angela says:

Has anyone read it? Kate said that it was important to Ominous… This kinda stinks, this makes no sense at all. I am really disapointed. If Reed starts casting spells in Ominous I’ll cry and quit the series for good… what a shame…’

So anyways, who are those girls meant to be on the character profiles (book of spells) ?

  23. stella says:

ITS IMPORTANT TO OMINOUS BECAUSE WE NEED TO KNOW THE BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF THE BOOK OF SPELLS CONSIDERING AT THE END OF VANISHED REED AND NOELLE WERE ABOUT TO READ IT AND IT CUT OFF. AND AS IT SAYS UP THERE ^^ OMINOUS STARTS RIGHT BACK UP AFTER VANISHED. excuse my caps, but I mean really. This is getting ridiculous. negativity bothers me

    • jasmine says:

I agree. On this site it states that reed and noelle are DESCENDANTS of Eliza Williams. On another site, i read the synopsis for the book of spells and it said that the original billings girls who were witches had a spell go wrong with a deadly outcome. This synopsis also said it was possible that reed may have UNKNOWINGLY recreated one of their spells or something? My prediction is that the ritual that reed had the new BLS go through was a spell of some sort from their founding sisters. Im not sure what that spell maybe or what exactly it does but i do think it’s dangerous and Reed did recreate it. That’s just my prediction, let me know what you think!

  24. candy says:

rule number one kate brian, you dont change the genre of a story like ten or thirteen books into the series, you do that in the first book. and also you gave absolutley no warning, all you did was dramatically change the story in the last two chapters. i thought you were an amazing writer, but that was one of the worst switches ive ever seen.
and plus it doesn’t matter that reed and noelle aren’t witches, it matters that the former billing were, and the fact that you made a story line about mystery, murder, love, and normal people into a supernatural series was weak.
i dont know if kate brian has succumbed to the other novels like twilight, house of night, etc. they are supernatural and popular, what made her think that hers would be.
i know im ranting but this move in kate’s writing is completely intolerable, as a privat fan!!!!

im just going to stick to the privelege novels, but i hope ariana wont turn into a vampire.

  25. K says:

I personally love the Private series and although im weary about the whole witches thing i dont think its real or ever was ‘real’ i think that everyone needs to get over it. Honestly if you dont like the series then be stubborn and dont read it you dont have to write it publicly that you think its stupid.

  26. shay says:

Kate, I’m confused on the time line here. *SPOILER ALERT (for anyone who hasn’t read the Privilege series) Ariana was in the B.T correctional facility for a year and a half, she got out in July and set everything up so that she could start at Atherton-Pryce Hall in August. But…wouldn’t that August be the year that Reed is a Senior at Easton? Yet, later on Ariana finds out she’s a Freshmen at Georgetown….so does Reed graduate early? Or what?

    • Gabby. says:

The Privilege series takes place a little bit after Private, so the timeline isn’t the same. :]

      • shay says:

I’m aware of that, but Ariana said she spent a year and a half at Brenda T. If Reed started at Easton her sophomore year and Ariana was arrested during the fall semester of that year, then a year and a half later, Reed should be entering her senior year at Easton.

        • Aly says:

@shay after the year and a half at brenda t, ariana spent quite a few months being briana leigh covington. so i think that reed might have finished her senior year by then. although im not really sure.

  27. Hannah says:

I already got my copy of Book of Spells a few days ago. Usually I read the Private/Privilege books within hours of their arrival, but I just can’t get myself to read Book of Spells, because I know it will ruin the series. There are way too many paranormal book series out there already, and we don’t need another one. I loved that Private was – okay, I admit it wasn’t always realistic (What would you have to do to get that many people to want to killl you?), but it was set in this world. I understand that Reed and the other Private characters don’t necessarily have to be witches, but even their ancestors being witches means that Private takes place in a world where witches exist, making it like all those paranormal series. Maybe Kate will be able to make me love it – I agree she’s a great writer – but I don’t know how soon I’ll find out, because, like I said, I can’t get myself to read the book that could (and probably will) ruin one of my favorite series. Maybe Kate needed something dramatic to end the series with, but I would have been fine with something less suspenseful if it meant avoiding this. In my opinion, (SPOILER ALERT for those who haven’t read Vanished yet), Reed and Noelle being sisters was too out there already and seemed forced, but it’s nothing against turning this great mystery series into a (probably not as great) paranormal one.

    • jj says:

omgread the damn book ok if you didnt want to read it why did you buy it??? you’ll probably lovr it like youy did the others so read the damn book and stfu cause its not some paranormal book…ok :)

    • stephanie says:

I’m kinda with jj on this one… you sat there a bought the book which was probably like 18 dollars and you havent even read it yet, but you’re going to sit there and judge it? Ever heard of “dont judge a book by its cover”? So basically this post just made you sound ignorant considering the book is IN your possession and youre still judging it ._.

  28. Justine says:

Kate! I am pretty sure in one of the books they said Noelle’s scar was from soccer! But I am not 100% positive on that. And Candy. She isn’t changing the storyline. The Book Of Spells is a prequal, meaning it happened before the timeline of the Private books. ANd speaking of Prequals… what happened to the one Kate told us about that was going to be about the missing events of Reed’s Sophomore year? The nine months right? Between coming back from Christmas break and the beggining of her Junior year? Hmmmm….. :P

  29. jasmine says:

im anxious to find out the significance of the observatory where reed found noelle in vanished. i would also like to know the story behind the scar on noelles stomach. hopefully kate explains these loose ends in the last few books

  30. Becca says:

FOR ALL OF YOU WHO SAY THE BOOK OF SPELLS IS STUPID AND YOUR NOT GOING TO READ IT STUFF IT WHERE THE SUN DON’T SHINE!! YOU ALL KNOW THAT YOU WILL PICK UP THE BOOK AND READ IT. STOP CRITICIZING THE BOOK BEFORE YOU EVEN READ IT YET! THAT’S JUST LAME.

  31. Justine says:

    Love it Becca. :P

  32. Hailey says:

I love the the Private Series! I just got Vanished yesterday, and finished it today. Soooo good. Anyways, is The Book Of Spells on sale yet? I can’t wait to read it. Love your work Kate <3

  33. aubrey says:

GUYS, I’ve got something thats been bothering me and makign me go hmm. In paradise lost, when Calista(Paiges mom) goes to knock reed off the boat, she first pulls the necklace on reeds neck and breaks it THEN pushes Reed into the ocean. What was the purpose to breaking the necklace? Like I never got that why would she pull the necklace it can’;t be to choke her cause she doesnt do it hard enough is it part of the attack? i dont get it.

    • shay says:

I’m thinking that in the struggle, whoever pushed Reed off (because Mrs. Ryan claimed it was Marquis) didn’t break the necklace intentionally but that it’s just how it happened.

      • aubrey says:

I’m guessing you haven’t read Suspicion yet :l and oh okay thank you!

        • Shayna says:

No. I did read Suspicion, that’s how I know that Mrs. Ryan told the police that Marquis pushed Reed, when she admitted to all the other times she tried to kill Reed.

          • aubrey says:

ooooh i don’t remmeber that i thought mrs ryan did everything im sure she did, she just admitted to just those things like sleeping with upton and stuff

  34. amber says:

WHOEVER READS BOOK OF SPELLS TELL ME HOW IT IS. CAUSE I WANNA KNOW F ITS WORTH BUYING/READING.

  35. N'nyree says:

I actually LOVE the improved website, I think it really it compliments the new book : Book of Spells. I also can’t wait to read, I read a sample of it from the other book : Vanished and it sounds so GOOD!

  36. Mckenna says:

I didn’t like this boook! I didn’t like them being witches and for the preview of ominous reed is interested in it! I don’t want them involved in that! I liked the book but nit with thie private series. Separatly maybe. But a prequel no. Still love you kate and can’t wait till your next book!

  37. kelly says:

@Mckenna so you dont recommend we get it like how is the book. and about the preview is josh in it?:)

  38. C.A. says:

I love the new site; I’m buying Book of Spells next week, and I can’t wait. To everyone dissing the book, shut up. It’s a prequel, and just because the Billings girls were witches THEN doesn’t mean they are NOW, which is something none of you seem to get. Judging something before you read it is rather idiotic, don’t you think? Besides, Kate said the info in Book of Spells would be important when Ominous comes out. Shut up, sit down, and read the dang book before bashing it.

  39. Rebecca says:

I’m going to get my book right now!!! ;)

  40. Rachel says:

Personally, I loved The Book of Spells. I thought it was going to be all about magic or something, like I was expecting to read Harry Potter again or something, but it wasn’t. I thought it was really great and showed how Private won’t become this witch-centered book. If you read The Book of Spells, you’ll see the spells they can cast, and it’s not like they’re going to go taking over the world or something. It’s just as good as Private and Privilege and is still filled with the same kind of boy-filled drama. :D
(IF THIS IS A KIND OF SPOILER I’M SORRY) And, to the ones who have read it, please tell me I’m not the only one who notice that Catherine is from Georgia and has a fleur-de-lis necklace. Like Ariana. I am JUST SAYING. okay :D D

  41. aubrey says:

@rachel yeah it says it on the website too you guys are truly convincing me to get it and are PERECT examples of why some of you shouldn’t be judging books based off descriptions this IS Kate brian after all

  42. jj says:

ok so im reading The book right now and im on like page 110 and the book is really good and its pretty much like all the other books there boy drama and bitches and just a lot like the other books and then yes theres spells but its not about them turning into witches so who every didnt want to read the book read it cause one you wont uderstand her next book ominous and second you’ll be missiing out on a great book =)

  43. grace says:

    hey–
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to ge to the wall papers and pictures?
I just started Book of Spells- Everyoe should read it!!!

  44. Kayla says:

I’m buying this book in a few days. I’m usually not into the whole witchcraft thing, but I’ve loved every book Kate Brian has done so far so I’m gonna trust her with this one and give it a try.

    • jj says:

you should I read it 2x all ready cause I really liked it so I think you’ll like it cause people just keep talking about them being witched but they overlooking everything else it the book in fact they dont really get into them doing all the witchcraft till like thats last 150 pages

  45. Stephanie says:

I need to go the Barnes and Noble to get this book as soon as possible. :)

  46. Anabelle says:

Well, aren’t we fans just super dedicated and passionate about the series? I think the saying, “don’t judge a book by its cover” is completely applicable in this case. (Especially since we are indeed, talking about a book.) I must agree that the idea of magic being intertwined with the Private series put me off a little bit. I, too, was reluctant to read Book of Spells upon its arrival as I usually do with the Private series. However, I just finished it and I really don’t think it’s that bad. If Kate’s story in the actual series does end up with wtichcraft in it, I don’t think many of us fans would be too please but I’m sure that all of the true fans will stick by her to see how it all turns out. We might as well give her the benefit of the doubt. Plus, the preview into Ominious seems to have a good balance between the actual storyline of the series and the information that has been added by Book of Spells. We just need to hope that we know Noelle’s character well enough to say that she won’t be letting Reed get in over her head with the witchcraft rubbish.

  47. Angel says:

OMG! I really love book of spells! It’s really awesome. Love your work, Kate! <3

  48. Jenn says:

i am extremely dissapointed with the ending of vanished. i love the private series, and I have managed to finish about two books a day because of the exciting plot twists, friend and relationship drama, and near-death experiences. but really kate brian, magic? you cannot write 12 books about the ordinary, yet extremely tragic life of a teenage girl and then decide to let her use magic spells with her magical sister whom she just found out about. i mean, WTF. NO! i always cannot wait to get the next book to see what exciting thing happens next, but, i’m am sad to say that Kate Brian screwed up the ending of the last book, should have realized that there isn’t many tragic events that Reed can live through since she’s basically been through everything there is to go through, and she just should have ended the series there instead of completely tainting the series with god damn magic. ughh it pissed me off. i dont care how many books she reads, i am NOT reading the next chapter of Reed’s now lamely magical life and highly recommend Kate Brian finishes off the series. sorry.

    • jj says:

wow thats a lot to say you should read it cause its really not all about the magic the book are still really good…and you knnow what really pisses me off? people liek you ok just read the book and then see what you have to say about it but dont think the book is bad

    • Private Lover says:

      i agree
      the series isnt about magic
i hate the web series too

im sure many of you will agree that the web series is aboslute CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the charcahters dont even look like the real people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      Let me start with reed
she is more ranga then brunette
and doesnt even look remotely similar to noelle
noelle should be a sexy brunette
      not a freaky ugly blonde
kiran… she looks like a horse
      wtf???
      and tyalor
      taylor is not black
      she has blonde curls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Josh-dont even get me started on that scrawny freak
what happened to the sexy and cute curly haired boy?
so i suggest you they take a serios look at the cats and change it

  49. Gaby says:

Personally, I loved Book Of Spells, and wish that could have a sequel to it, even if it did have magic in it, it was still a good book, and Kate is always full of surprises, so I can not wait until the next private book comes out!

    • Ally says:

I also agree, everyone should definatlely read Book of Spells whether you disagree with the magic in this series or not. At first I hated the idea of my favorite non-”immortal” series becoming about witchcraft, but once I read it, it was truly and AMAZING book. I read it within two days. Kate never fails to intrigue us. Give it a chance. We obviously have to accept the fact that one of our favorite series has more amazing books to add with many twists and cliff-hangers. READ THE BOOK!

  50. Kera says:

Do you read the prequal Last Christmas after the series and then read Book of Spells?

    • stella says:

You should probably read Last Christmas as soon as youre done with Confessions(4th book) cause it’ll be easier to understand why Ariana killed Thomas. and Book of Spells after you read Vanished.

  51. kara says:

i loved book of spells i thought it was soo goood!!!! i cant wait for ominous!! Im really scared though that someone will die though because of what happened to catherine:(

  52. Devo says:

I loved the book of spells!! I thought it was soooo good! A little sad Cathrine died :( but what happens to Eliza & Harrison?

  53. Alison says:

I love the series but the web series is shit
the cast dont even look like the real characters
    kiran looks like a man
taylor looks like a freak and noelle is not blonde

do not turn it into a tv show!!!!!!
if u do follow kate brians description of the cast!!!!!!!!!

  54. TRA says:

OMG I just finished reading The Book Of Spells in study hall today I nearly screamed I’m Eliza William’s real life doppelganger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cool right? I think so :-)
P.S. who else thinks Harrison Knox and Eliza where ment for each other?

  55. Bree says:

ok so i am freaking out….this is the most unexpected twist ever i cant even breathe right how aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  56. Merrill says:

Wait but when you look at the descriptions of the girls and you see the private facts, they’re wrong. Paige and Daniel are related to Theresa, but so are Noelle and Reed. And Noelle is not related to Eliza, just Reed is.

  57. rida says:

kayssss soooooooo damn. thessee books are like <3 <3 ♥♥♥
i loveeee them. ndd there WITcHESS?? OMG!!!!!! <3
    ahaha ;)

  58. Katherine says:

Hey, Im only 9 and I love this series. The local libarie and my school planned to vist. OMG SHE JUST DUMPED A LOAD OF BUCKS ON ME!! WOO LOVE THERES

  59. Lucy says:

Does anyone know the initiation spell?

  60. Private Lover says:

    Hi private and kate brian
let me start by saying i absolutely love the private series but..
im sure many of you will agree that the web series is aboslute CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the charcahters dont even look like the real people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Let me start with reed
she is more ranga then brunette
and doesnt even look remotely similar to noelle
noelle should be a sexy brunette
    not a freaky ugly blonde
kiran… she looks like a horse
    wtf???
    and tyalor
    taylor is not black
    she has blonde curls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Josh-dont even get me started on that scrawny freak
what happened to the sexy and cute curly haired boy?
so i suggest you take a serious look at you cast and change it
and i can guarentee if you dont,, you will be getting hundreds of fans extremely pissed and furious
and i will be leading them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  61. shigs says:

did theresa billings marry harrison knox or did elizabeth williams? kate brian just leaves us hanging at the end on the whole relationship status. is there going to be another book after the book of spells?

  62. Kaitlyn says:

They got the description Eliza Williams wrong……she has green eyes and Noelle is a desendant of Theresa Billings…..I personally liked book of spells very much, I would love to a sequel even if there was no magic. i just want to see what happens with Eliza and Harrison ;) keep writing Kate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

    • Shelby V says:

Me two! I love Eliza and Harrison! If they didn’t end up together Harrison should be Josh’s great-great-grandpa so it would be like Reed and Josh were destined for each other!

  63. Amber Mayes says:

OMG i Loved Book of Spells I can not wait to read the next book in the Private Series. Kate Brian you rock! :)

  64. Shelby V says:

I loved it! Will there be a sequel/fallow up or will that be uncovered in private?!
I notecied cruel love wasn’t posted and it came out but it was amazing and I love/hate the the ending! And if that’s how you ended it will that be the way private is ended but with clarification and poor Jasper! Why does she have to mess up everyones lives!

  65. Corrine H says:

wait. I went to barns and noble tonight to get BoS but it want there so I just got Ominous. do I need to read BoS in order to get what happens in Ominous???

    • Chelsea says:

I read BoS before Ominous and it helped understand a few things. I would definitely suggest it but I think you could get on in Ominous without it

  66. Chelsea says:

I loved Book of Spells just as much as any other in the series but I felt it to be unfinished. Like there was the whole Cat and Mouse thing with Eliza and Harrison and then it Hellen is still not fully developed. Plus I’m really curious as to what happened afterwards. Did they truly stop? Did that end spell work? How were their lives afterward? Ominous left me with more question about this prequel than I had when I finished it. I really hope there is at least one more background book to this series because it will be hard enough to be without this series when Vengeance comes out in August and I’m done with it that day. I guess I’ll just have to find solace in finishing the privileged series.
I will say it was good to see a bit more aggressive heroine if you will. I love Reed, don’t get me wrong fans, but she can get whiny and Eliza was a nice change of pace. The magic bit was also a change. The private novels have always been so tragic and now there is a bit of frivolity in the introduction of spells and witchcraft. It is a bit odd and somewhat kitschy but if you’re gonna wrap up a series might as well through all your ideas into it. I’m sure this element will add the ultimate tragic element. (We got a taste of that in Ominous) Plus it helps to tie in the doomed fate of the Billings girls and their ancestry.
All the same love the series, love Kate Brian :)

  67. Hasan says:

OH MY GOD! I just finished Book of Spells in like two days and loveed it! I could not put it down!!!! I loved it! i just saw the book on the shelf and thought witches, cool! However, there is nothing that I’m happier about than that I picked it up. It is addicting! I loved that Onimous had a sample of it in Book of Spells. I feel that Theresa was a good soul but she can be a pain at times. But I feel that she really needed to find a man who loved her and didn’t want any other woman! I just love a good book and I’m going to follow this series to the end. IT IS GREAT AND EVERYONE SHOULD GET THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven’t read any other series or books by Kate Brain but if it as excellent as Book of Spells then she will hold a higher place than J.K. Rowling in my reading heart.

  68. Daph says:

Is the book of spells going to turn into a series too? i mean there were so many things unanswered!!!

  69. KateBrianFan says:

The whole witches part made the book so much more interesting for me. Good idea.

my favorite private novel!!! I don’t really like historical novels but this was my FAVORITE book. It’s only suiting that Catherine White was Ariana’s relative—- Catherine’s death must have been what turned Ariana and her family cuckoo. And I think its funny (and scary) how Helen Jennings was the relatives of Cheyenne Martin and Alyssa Kane. I always thought she was creepy, and some crazy genes must run through the Osgood-DuLacs and Kane-Martins! I LOVED Eliza Williams- my favorite character! I totally understand her…. whenever my brother tries to open the car door for me, I get annoyed too or I like to read books most girls don’t read.. like Private! I read these books when I was 11… which I admit was a bit young but I read the Pretty Little Liars books at age 11 too and while they were awesome, every girl reads them at my school and I can’t say that about Private. This book was amazing!!!

How does a leader in the church break this barrier? How does a leader in the church compete with the electronical age of gadgets? How does a leader in the church connect real events from the here and now to events of the past. How does a leader of the church help us to see that God is still present and functioning is this chaotic place that we call home??

I personally love the Private Series and the Priviledge series and even the prequels. I didn’t really like the twist of magic all that much, but just because I liked how they had all these huge problems but once they had magic? Why didn’t they just solve their problems with magic? All it really did was save their lives. But I finished the main series and I still love it, except that they ditch the magic? What’s with that?
Oh but I do like The Book of Spells. I’m doing a book report on it… we could do any book that we had read in class on reading days (every friday we have a day where we just read in class) but only ones we had read in class. So I wanted to do the first Private book but i started that one before I started the class, so I’m doing the Book of Spells. My only question is what happens to Eliza and Harrison? Are they together? Or not? I know that Eliza marries SOMEONE because of Private but now I really want to know who!
