I was lucky enough to find Ominous at barnes and noble last saturday, and finished it that night! I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. Witches? I figured that was getting a little too out there, but Kate Brian, (as always) managed to pull off an amazingly written book. While you’d think it would be a big leap making a book about witches, after all of the other crazy things that have happened in the books, it actually turned out great! I would even say it was one of my favorite private books yet! Thank you so much Kate for writing these books, and giving me something to pass the time with, and go back and read over and over again! I’ve been reading these for years, and I still count down the days, and race over to the bookstore to find them when they first come out.
I can’t wait til the next one!
Noelle said she didn’t believe in witches, but her candle still flickered. I am positive it is because she is a descendent of Theresa Billings, though. Isn’t Paige a descendent of Theresa? I thought I read that in Paradise Lost. Wouldn’t that make make Noelle, Reed, Paige and Missy all related?
That’s the same thing that I thought! They are all tied. But who is Jessica Billings? I read in Last Christmas that Paige was the desendent of Jessica Billings. So, is it Jessica or Theresa?? Hmmm… that would be something if they were all related. Especially Paige, Missy and Reed cause they don’t like each other. That’d be salty. lol

I read the book too and I was so mad when “he” died and how did mrs.Kane even like almost killed reed when she was in handcuffs?

@Shannon, no, don’t worry; it’s not the last one. Vengeance is the next one, which comes out on September 6th, but unfortunately that will end the series. =_[ So freaking sad! I’m fourteen chapters into Ominous right now (got it yesterday!!) and it is AMAZING so far!! Keep it up, Kate, you’ve done it again. lol Love the references to their past, the Reed and Noelle as sister best friend relationship, and of course…the Rosh moments. They are sooo cute! i thought that the book just got released yesterday. If I were Reed, I would feel awesome about being Noelle’s sister and having Mr. Lange as my father. But, I can’t believe *SPOILER ALERT* that “he” possibly died. I hope he doesn’t and that in the next book, Kate Brian makes him, Noelle, and Reed get really close.
Haven’t read the book yet, but I did browse through a few pages. I want to say a big thank-you to Kate for keeping Ivy around all this time. As I’ve mentioned before, she’s my favourite character after Reed, and I love the friction and friendship between them. It’s always fun to flip through a new book in stores and find out that the two of them will be interacting. After ‘Revelation’, that was what made me buy ‘Scandal’, ‘Vanished’, and ‘Ominous’. I’m a straight male reader, and proud to say I’ve enjoyed the series.

i was a bit skeptical about the whole witches plot but this book has definitely got me convinced that it was a good idea. the book is sooo intense and i LOVE the ties to eliza and the rest of them.
i hope in the last book ALL the characters are there … well, the ones that are still alive atleast lol
like all of them have a big party and get together or something ?? i just want all of them to be together happy again … as cheesy as that sound ? hahaha i want a happy ending for these rich teenagers ?? lol

True no one told mr.Lange to jump in front and Reed shouldnt have never went up to mrs.Kane she should have sat down next to Josh if she did then mr.Lange wouldn’t be have dead (well I think he’s dead) and I think noelle is going to be pissed at reed I sometimes feel bad for noelle cause to be honest reed sorta messed up noelles life with the whole Thomas thing but then again noelle souldnt have done the kiddnapping in the first place.
I know … sometimes I feel like reed kind of did messed up Noelle’s life … although I like reed, but just imagine Noelle’s life if reed never showed up?? I actually didn’t think that Ominous was that great. Like in all the other books one of the things I really liked about it was that when you read about the Billings girls, you really want to be them. You really want to go to Easton and be best friends with Reed, Noelle, Ivy, Vienna, Portia, Tiffany, Rose, Astrid, Taylor, Kiran etc. and it seems like there are people in the world who are like them (not true). But in Ominous it was all magical and witchcraft and spells and curses and it made it seem COMPLETELY unrealistic. I liked the old books where it was murder mysteries and boy/friend drama but now it’s super fictitious fantasy? Please Kate Brian go back to your old style of books that everyone loved and i got addicted to! I read the them over and over and over again and I own every single one! Now I’ve even gotten all my friends addicted to them!
Ps. Kate Brian: you still haven’t explained why Noelle has a scar around her stomach, maybe you could fit that into something with Ariana in Cruel Love? Or just have her dad (make him stay alive PLEASE) explain something that happened when she was born? THANK YOUUU KEEP UP THE AWESOME BOOKS!

***MIGHT BE SPOILERS***When was this scar thing said? It’s been awhile since I’ve read the old ones, but I completely agree with you. I was super pissed when I found out my favorite series that is 10+ books in introduces which craft making this whole series unrealistic, but I was actually kinda surprised how good it was. I don’t think anyone else could have made the twist sound better than Kate, but it just makes you wonder had she had it planned from the beginning?? And yeah if I was Noelle I would be soo pissed at Reed because the only reason she was even in danger at that time was because she felt the need to go mouth which is very unlike Reed and if she wouldn’t have done that Mr. Lange would still be alive. I wish this wouldn’t have happened not just because of Mr. Lange, but it really makes me like Reed a lot less! And question..I’ve been starting the privilege and was curious how Kiran is dead in that series, but yet we’ve heard nothing in private and if I’m not mistaken wasn’t she even in the last book?? How is that possible?
The Privledge series is two years ahead of of the Private series.
the scar was mentioned in the very first book, like a LOT. Also Noelle said she had family issues? I wonder what that was. Kate Brian should read over her first few books and explain about it. As for what u said about her planning it all out, i seriously doubt that she did. I bet she just wrote them with no planning in advance because if you notice they’re all in book sections of 2-4 (ex. books 1-4, books 5-8, books 9-11, books 12-14) and each section has a totally different plot line
Noelle’s scar was first mentioned in Private, the 1st book, when Reed was spying on Noelle, Kiran, Taylor, and Arianna through her window in Bradwell. and the Privilege series is 1-2 years ahead of Ominous!
They mentioned the scar in book 1 – but they never explained it. I think thats what she wants, for it to be explained.

Just finished Ominous; amazing book. It’s definitely a great addition to the Private novels and I just loved it. There was one thing I didn’t get though; toward the end: What exactly did Reed and Noelle’s grandmother do to their families? Was everything she told them all an act or what? I didn’t understand that part; someone please clue me in if you can, but other than that, it was incredible. Their past secrets are scary but awesome, along with their whole history and their connection to Eliza in everything that happened, and of course I still LOVE Reed and Josh together. I also like how Reed’s relationship with her mom has gotten better and stronger over the course of the series. I just hope the ending cliffhanger, when “he” dies (major sad face!), doesn’t affect Reed and Noelle’s friendship. Please, Kate, make the last book the best ever; hopefully a little longer and a happy ending!! I trust you and know you can do it; we’re all counting on you!

I absolutely loved this one. Iv read all of the books multiple times and love them all, especially Josh!!!!!!! It was so totally crazy how reed saw the girls disappearances before they happened. I just saw something online that said that the nxt book is the last book in the series! Is that true? I’d b so sad I love these books so much I can’t imagine what it will be like without new books.

I wondered that too! lol But I think it’s because the whole time Mrs. Kane was really behind believing the coven stuff and the threat to the Billings Girls who didn’t belong, so she was a psycho, and another one of those least expected villians. So I kind of got that in the end, and I have a feeling the dead body thing was talking about the dead bodies in Reed’s dream (unless Kate made a mistake because I don’t think we missed anything; I don’t remember any messages either), but I still don’t get what Mrs. Kane meant when she mentioned Reed’s grandmother (Mrs. Lange). Like what did she do besides try to help them through the witches and sisters thing? I don’t understand that, but otherwise, I pretty much got it and it was so amazing!! Oh, and also, back in Inner Circle Cheyenne was so mean when she ruled Billings House and tried to decide who belonged and who didn’t despite the new rules. So I think that was the other connection with Mrs. Kane as well and how that was revelent. And actually, about the dead body thing, I think actually it was probably talking about Eliza. Reed didn’t physically find her body, but she dreamed about her, and then heard her voice and it was in a message both times; important and just for her. I still don’t get the thing with Mrs. Lange, though, and I’m dying to know! lol Someone tell me if they have an idea please!

i think noelle gma planned to have reed born from the start. like mrs. kane said, everyone thought that the williamses family had died, so there would be no reason for the curse to affect the familys of the four founding girls (eliza,catherine,theresa,helen). i guess noelle’s gma found out about reed’s mom being a descendent, and got her to work with mr. lange so they can have reed be born. i think the gma wanted to restore billings from the curse, so she wanted a witch that would be powerful enough to break the curse a.k.a reed. reed would have both eliza and theresa’s powers
Mrs. Lange planed Reeds birth so the powers would combine and mrs. Kane is relevant by helen I guess and mr. Lange cannot die
I also think if the next one is the last then all of her friends should be friends again by that I mean the ones that didn’t make the circle and Taylor and them

Reed has every right to be pissed at her, because she meant to get rid of the curse, but she went about it in the wrong way by placing that turmoil on their families and basically using Reed to end it. >:( That makes total sense, and although that made Noelle and Reed closer by being sisters, I feel so bad for them that they unknowingly had to go through all this crap. When Mrs. Kane was talking about Reed being “engineered” by Noelle’s grandmother, she was implying that Mrs. Lange made sure that Noelle’s dad and Reed’s mom hooked up so that Reed would be born. She wanted them to have a baby together, because it would mean that Reed would have both William’s and Billing’s blood in her, making her an extremely powerful witch.
If you’re wondering how she can have both bloodlines in her, this is what Mrs. Lange says in the book:
“Reed’s mother’s grandmother was Eliza’s daughter, Catherine, named after Eliza’s old friend. Catherine disowned her daughter, Lea, when she decided to run off with a steel worker-someone Catherine saw as beneath the family name. After that Eliza’s line fell out of wealth…but not out of spirit or strength. That’s evident in you, dear. This is why the alumnae have taken such interest in you from the beginning: As both a Billings and a Williams, you could have a unique amount of power.”

Im confused, the back of the book said that reed would find a body “with a message just for her” i’ve finished the book and she didn’t find any messages with dead bodies or live bodies…did i miss something
I KNOW the synopsis made it seem like the book would be completely different than it actually was i was like wow how lame. They made it seem like billings girls died and reed found creepy notes, but it was nothing like that.. so why put it on the synopsis to throw everyone off?
i think the body with a message just for her would be eliza in her dream who was dead and her message was the books or the neclace. but it could be (SPOILER ALERT) mr. lange after he “died” which i hope he didn’t. i dont really know. just an idea (;

Hey people who are freaking out about the end of Private..read Privileged!! At the end of Pure Sin **SPOILER ALERT** it kind of makes a reference of Reed at college so it fast forwards a little and Ariana sees Reed at the hospital possibly seeing Kiran. At the end she kind of goes freaky and seems like shes going to attack her. So if you really miss Reed after the end of the series read the next book in the series!!

I think that maybe Kiran was found and was ALMOST dead, but not actually dead, so Reed came to see her at the hospital. And by the way, am I the only one that thinks Reed Brennan is in a TON of trouble now that “Ariana” is back?!

I don’t think Reed is a Stone and Grave member cause in the series Ariana had to repeat high school and I doubt you can continue being a S and G member while you are in college. So I don’t think Reed knows Lexa, but with Reed and Noelle being sisters, somehow Lexa and Reed could kknow each other but I doubt it.

In the very first Private, all Reed did was ask Missy a question, and that question was, “What’s a Billings girl?” and Missy came back with a smart ass comment and looked at Reed as if she’d never be chosen to be a Billings girl. First off, Missy was a bitch for no reason. The girl just asked her a question! I don’t get how you can hate someone just because they asked you a question! Missy had no reason at all to antagonize Reed like she did. I mean seriously! How can you have a problem with someone who’s never done sh*t to you since they’ve arrived? That makes no sense to me. Missy was on some ignorant mess right there. I can’t hate someone for no reason. It doesn’t work like that. If I dislike you, then there’s a reason why. Honestly, I think Missy was just jealous of Reed from the start for some odd reason. I mean why else would you hate someone you just met for no reason? Answer: Because they have something you want and you’re pissed cause you don’t have it and never will. Geesh. Paige always got on my nerves. Always acting like she was God’s gift to earth. Ugh. Go sit down somewhere and eat a peanut, bitch! Just annoying. But if I had to choose either Missy or Paige to hang with for a day, I’d take Paige cause she’s a little less annoying and frigid bitchy than Missy. But either way, those two are not at the top of my Favorites list.

yeah same i really like the privilege books. i think what i like better about them is that arianna is a way stronger character than reed. Like she never complains really or whines like reed does, and instead she FIXES her problems. sometimes by killing the person but still. and i love athertonp pryce. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 PALMER!!
Lately though, Ariana has been whining like about Lexa, maybe she doesn’t whine, but she gets super pissed and we all know what happens when Ariana gets mad, I like Reed better, at least she’s stable, and not psychotic
I very much agree with you, Noelle. I love atherton-pryce, the secret society (stone and grave), PALMER<3 (they shouldn't break up-stupid Jasper), her friends… It just seems to have a stronger plot than Private. I loooved the plot for the first four books in Private though. Very nicely done.
so i’m a little confused. *spoiler alert* in the book it says that noelle and reed are descendants of theresa billings and reed is also a descendant of eliza williams, but on this website it says that noelle and reed are descendants of eliza williams? which one is correct? :/
I know, and when you think about it, it makes no sense. Because obviously they would have to be Williams decendants or lenora wouldn’t have the key, because remember, Eliza kept the key, so it had to be handed down through the family, but at the same time, the book only makes sense (Ominous), if Reed is the only remaining decendant of Eliza, so I’d just go with it as it comes to you
I don’t remember exactly how, but Mrs. Lange said that Reed has Williams and Billings blood in her. That is the whole reasons Mrs. Lange created the master plan for Reed’s mom to hook up with Noelle’s dad, so that Reed would be born and become an extremely powerful witch.
I was wondering the EXACT same thing and was going to comment. I think it’s an error or Kate’s part. For some reason I feel as if she is forgetting to mention a lot of things in the series, such as Noelle’s scar.
personally. i dont see why the scar is relevant not to sound rude but who cares? maybe it was just a descriptive trait to show more outer detail about noelle and besides everyone has scars i dont see why we need to know where the scar came from. Noelle could of just been born with it. theres more important things to worry about I think.

Honestly, I hated this new book. I liked the other Private books but I hated that Kate added witch craft to the book. I’m all for magic in books, but for ALL the books before this, there was no mention or even a hint of magic. All of the sudden, they’re witches! It makes no sense and I do not want to buy the next book now.
If there were hints in the other books, I wouldn’t have minded this one. But that wasn’t the case…

Just finished ominous and as always it was fantastic, but I have to say i hope the ending is not true I hope that he turns out to be ok and alive, because that would really put a damper on the whole series. I’m hoping that the ending “I would never get the chance to thank him” turns out to be a so I thought moment and he has this miraculous recovery.

I’m thinking that Josh is a decendant of Alice though, because he had a dream that Reed was in danger, and when they were in the wine cellar, Josh is the one who recieved the message out of anyone else who would have been strong candadites, like Ivy or Noelle

@Jessie I understand your idea, but how would that make him related to Alice? Why couldn’t he be related to someone else? And furthermore, it’s mentioned that Josh and his family was from New Hampshire and he went to school there, but then his roomate commited suicide and he got pissed off because people was treating him like a suspect and asking all these questions, and he snapped one day and trashed the Dean’s office and got expelled. So then he got enrolled in Easton Academy all the way in Conneticut. I’m not saying that he can’t be related to any of the originals, it’s possible. But it’s very slim and nil and random.
I would be so freaked out if I were Reed! Like mostly because she’s been through so much in the past couple of years at Easton…so I’d just be like when will it be over?!?! Is my life ever going to be normal again?! Apparently not…CAN’T WAIT TO READ IT! Ask any of my friends I love this series…I’ll be like reading to one of them and they’ll be like Private? Uh yeah….:)
Haha, I know, right?? It must be unbearable for Reed; I feel so bad for her it’s not even funny. But the thing is, Vengeance (the next book) ends the series, and in Pure Sin of Privilege it’s revealed that she goes to Georgetown Uni when she graduates where her life turns around for the better. So I’m really happy about that and hope that she and Josh end up going to that college together as well. ROSH!! I freaking love them! =D This series is amazing and I can’t believe it’s ending….=[

I really sympathize with Reed throughout the whole series because she’s been through so much. like if i had my boyfriend get murdered, my new boyfriend wrongfully arrested for the murder, almost killed by 2 people i thought were my friends, betrayed, kicked out of my home, blackmailed, hazed, drugged, dumped, stranded on a desert island, found out my best friend was my half-sister and that my dad isnt actually my dad, found out i was a witch, and then had my biological dad get attacked by a psycho who tried to kill me, i’d be so paranoid!!!!!! like i wouldn’t even know what to do with myself!!!!!
reed really had SUCH a sucky life at easton its so ironic the only reason she applied there was to leave her sucky life in croton behind.
yea its like give her a break already. and, i read the book seriously the witch thing was so un realistic. i want the series to go back to the way it was before. it just makes no sense now. plus theres no action in the book at all i hope vengeance is better

It’s hard these days not to worry about einyrthveg! My oldest granddaughter we’re raising 2 worried about einyrthveg when she was barely old enough to talk Grandpa you’re going to run out of gas , How are we going to get back home . Things have been easier as the years went on. Still, at 15, she worries more than most adults. As most have said, we turn to prayer, scriptures, and helping her know that we have the situation well in hand because Jesus is with us. It just takes patience and talking her through some rough times.

I LOVE how Kiki was in the book more, cause usually she’s hardly into the book, really got to know her as a character. Omg and I love the Rosh parts, love how they have a connection with their dreams & how Reed sent him a warning, pretty awesome.

i loved the way the suspense built up throughout the book but we all thought there would be a huge climax at the end. Instead it seemed rushed and small and i feel like more could’ve been done with it. And in the book of spells remember how catherine had the fleur de lis necklace? where did she get it? because if u read the privilege series ariana obviously inherited it from her family since she is a descendant. In other words, if ariana had the fleur de lis then what was this gold chain reed found? i cant remember whether or not it was in the book of spells??
The fleur de lis that Catherine had is the same neclace that ariana had in priviledge, it was a family heirloom. The necklace that reed found is different from the necklace of ariana

Reed was a bit of a Mary Sue character before and she’s even more of a Mary Sue now, when she’s again the hero, being like the most powerful witch ever. Seriously?
I loved the story before but now I’m getting more and more disappointed…
Maybe Ms Brian should spend less time describing the looks and clothes of the characters and spend more developing the story
I’ve always loved the clothing description in her books and everything about them, with the twists and turns. However, I was a bit disappointed that magic was introduced in this series, as I liked the catty , and even psychotic characters – as unrealistic as Arianna being able to escape and get away with killing so many people without any consequences. I just feel like the magic is pushing it way too far, not really loving the aspect of witchcraft and whatnot.
The ending was surprising and sad though.

No, the privilege series has a totally different plot line with very few references to the private books. and i would recommend reading them because they’re really good if you are a huge fan of the Private series!

OMG just finshed Ominous. I have to say im not reallly in love with the whole witch craft stuff but it does work. Just saying its just not too realistic and I kinda miss the first books with all the partying and stuff. The only thing i do want out of the witch stuff (which im pretty sure is not going to happen but it would be just sooo amazing if it did) is for Thomas to come back…haha ya i mean the book is already going all supernatural and stuff and it ttly should happen. Thomas was always my favorite character I want him back!!!
I don’t see how vengeance can end the series when privilege takes it way beyond were private is at, unless if a new series will start by them going off to college and I want Josh and Reed to be together but at the same time I like Upton alot and even though he’s a player he settle down for Reed like Thomas and I loved Thomas which is why I like Upton so as a substitution of Thomas bring Upton into the story more! I finished Ominous a whille ago. Like when it came out, but I’m saying this now…. I was shocked and surprised!! This book kept me on the edge of my seat! I didn’t want to put it down which was a problem at school cause instead of me listening to the teacher, I was ignoring them and reading. haha. Kate out did herself this time. As she always does! When I read The Book of Spells, I became excited for Ominous now that I knew the whole story about Billings’s past. The ending of Ominous really shocked me. Especially when Ms. Kane stabbed “him” I was very sad and shocked but I’m also excited to see what Noelle will do. And who’ll she’ll blame, if she does. And as for Vengeance, I’m soooo sad that it’s the last installment but I am excited cause I think Kate is gonna tie Privilege and Private together for the last two books of the two different series. Cruel Love and Vengeance.

I legit just finished that book. Anyway ariana goes to kill reed and almost succeeds but then reed pulls out a gun and try’s calling the police. Ariana lunges at reed and reed shoots and then the ambulance takes Ariana away. Reed is fine though

I’ve only watched episode 1. It’s really good, except, it doesn’t stay true to the books. And it’s really short. Episode 1 only lasted 7 minutes…

@Katie I think Jen isn’t mentioned once in Ominous… and Graham and Sawyer weren’t in there much… or at least that’s what I remember. If they were, then they didn’t play an important part in the plot of the book… Gage was in the book, though

this is the most amazing series i have ever read. ive read it at least 5 times over its so good. and omnious takes the cake, i just got it yesterday and i finished it up in bed tonight, i was so scared at the last few chapters gripping the book so tightly iit bent. i was in the dark too and that didnt help. im so sad “he” dies in the end, reed barely got the chance to know him and i was hoping shed finally open up to him in the end.
