Long before Chord Overstreet joined the cast of Glee as Sam Evans and Brant Daugherty appeared on ABC Family’s hit show Pretty Little Liars as Noel Kahn, they starred together in a web series called Private, based on the best-selling novels by Kate Brian. Chord played the leading man as Josh Hollis, while Brant played murder victim Thomas Pearson–a part that limited his role to the first few episodes.
It’s sort of crazy when you think about it. PRIVATE fans discovered Chord first, way back in 2009–before Taylor Swift even knew he existed! And now he’s singing and dancing alongside Lea Michele, and Brant is hanging around with Lucy Hale and company. Some PLL fans even think Brant’s character may be A!

I’m sooo glad your successful but one thing I have to say is all these people who are fans now would not be fans had they both not gotten these roles whereas us Private fans have been there since day 1 and always will be!

Okay Private should definitely get a proper tv show. Look at pretty little liars: it wasn’t super popular with the books, then they make a tv show and BAM! it’s super popular! The Private webshow really sucked so i think you should make a movie or show.

I soooooooo agree!!!! I think they should make it into a tv series! And did you producers read the book????? totally different! Ariana has tiny eyes when in the books she was descripted as big blue has that stared straight into my brain!! Kiran is just not model worthy and Noelle needs to be taller, with a tan and straight hair! And why are they all wearing uniforms and the guys are in normal clothes? Thats what really left me feeling confused!

In Ominous, we discover that Reed is a descendant of Eliza Williams and Theresa Billings. Noelle is a descendant of Theresa Billings. In Last Christmas, we find out that Paige Ryan is a descendant of Jessica Billings. So, does that mean that Paige is related to Noelle and Reed? So that would mean that Paige’s mother, who tried to kill Reed, is also related to Noelle and Reed? And, Missy Thurber, who is Paige’s cousin, is also related to Noelle and Reed?
I need to see some family trees. lol.

Frist off….. Chord: Is my all time favorite.. (and gooooodlooking) haha, but im sooo glad Chord and Brant are doing well..!! PRIVATE = Is my obbsesion… by far.. lol . My dad thinks im crazzyy that i sit in my room and re-read the books over and over and over again…!! :p Anyways… Josh (Chord) is my favorite guy and Noelle is my favorite lady.. (; Its all soooo sad that its coming to an end though,… ive become soooo desprate i’ve now started Privilege just too keep somewhat on a Private pacee hahaha…

Thank you for that!! I was practically drooling as I read that chapter! This one is just gonna be amazing. Part of me does want to see Ariana live happily ever after. But another part of me wants to see her get some retribution for killing (at least) FIVE people- I’m not convinced about Kiran being dead yet, if she is dead, that’s just horrible but I hope she’s alive.

So I just got done reading Cruel Love at Barnes and Noble and I’ve gotta say… wow. Just wow. Kate blew me away with this one. In other books, I did have some sympathy for Ariana. She had a crap childhood and that certainly screwed her up some. But at this point she’s (I’m pretty sure) 20 years old. Can’t blame mommy and daddy forever. And OH MY GOD, I pitied her in this one because she truly is mentally unstable, she’ll get rid of anyone if she feels she has to- but don’t have so much sympathy for her anymore. There were some parts where I was almost in tears- I knew she was crazy but (without posting spoilers) there were some parts where I was like, Wow Ariana, didn’t know you’d seriously do that. I’d have really liked an epilogue, considering the way the book ended, an epilogue would have been really interesting. Sad to see it end, can’t wait for Vengeance- and hopefully something equally juicy after that!

The ending of ‘Cruel Love’ made me more emotional than I expected to be. I do think it was appropriate, though. Kate did a very nice job overall with this series and character.

Oh my god, I hate you SO MUCH for what you did to Ariana. I was desperately rooting for her to catch a break, get a second chance, and live happily ever after with her new life…I loved her so much, she was my favorite character ever, I found her so relatable and I know she killed people but she deserved to be happy, dammit! Everyone does! I wanted so badly for her to just finally be free…
Yeah, I wanted her to be free to. But when you consider the alternate to what the ending, things would have been a LOT worse for Ariana. All that trouble had finally caught up with her and especially towards the very end, I really don’t think she had a very firm grip on reality, she was SO paranoid.
I know…god, I just wanted to hug her. I’ve had psychotic breakdowns like that, and I’ve known other people it’s happened to, and I really think that with time, happiness, and an actual decent therapist (I wanted to tear out Dr. Meloni’s intestines starting from the very first chapter of Privilege), she could eventually get through it. The therapist would be hard to find, though…

“I’m an escaped mental patient who stole someone’s identity and have killed a number of people, and it’s really been haunting me. I’m really paranoid and I feel like I’m going insane.”
“All right, tell you what. Let me just make a quick call and I’ll be right back. … Hello, 911? I’ve got a serial killer in my office…”
But I do feel that she could have overcome her problems, if only things had gone right. There were so many coincidences — Reed going to college nearby, Dr. Meloni being the counselor…it just seemed like the universe was out to get her. And being someone who knows what it’s like to have a really bad panic attack where all you want and need is for everything to STOP (like when she killed Thomas)…I can’t condemn her, I really can’t. She’s confused, and disturbed, but she isn’t a bad person.
Sorry for the long post. I just find Ariana to be such a tragic character, and so many people misunderstand her as a heartless psycho killer who deserved every bit of the emotional torment she went though, but I don’t think that was Kate Brian’s point at all. You don’t humanize a murderer like that and expect people to hate her, you know?
I agree with you. She’s definitely a tragic (and not to mention extremely damaged) character. And I do think that with time and a lot of good, VERY EXTENSIVE therapy, she could act like a more rational person. And trust me, I know how you feel, what when it comes to panic attacks, when I get to overwhelmed, I kind of have melt downs too, so in that sense, I could understand Ariana. I wasn’t sure what to think of her in the end, I felt bad for her and especially in Last Christmas, you could see how she was basically stuck between a rock and hard place and I think family pressure had a lot to do with her just cracking up. I really wasn’t sure what to think at the end of Cruel Love though, I did want her to be happy but after awhile it seemed like she was just making excuses for killing this person and than this person and what really scared me was how much pleasure she seemed to get out of killing, that is not normal. It was definitely the saddest ending I could have imagined though because if the cops had caught her in the end she would have fried (I did look up the definition of a serial killer and it’s someone who’s killed at least 3 people and she’s a bit over that limit). That’s where I felt really bad for her, after all that trouble she was bound to get caught soon. Poor girl just couldn’t catch a break!
You guys… do you KNOW how many breaks ariana caught? she killed like 6 different people with her hands wiped free. she made it out of brenda T and killed off kaitlynn AND became the most popular girl at school in the matter of a couple of motnhs of attending the school you gotta kind of think outside the box for a second, you had to have known this was coming.. she couldnt keep getting away with everything for the rest of her life it doesnt work like that….. and lets be real if kate had to choose between reed and ariana… she would chose reed.

I just REALLY hope Reed doesn’t die, because she’s sweet and NOT mentally unstable, she’s one of my favorite characters in the series. Plus, it seems like her life was just getting better and happier, with her in college and all. Just please, God, let her be okay. As for Ariana…don’t even get me started on her and her crazy logic. This should be interesting….<3
@Sam: finished reading it (i love the ppl who invented preordering!) and i have to say CRUEL LOVE is… well, dramatic and crazy and reeeeeeeally exciting! Ariana is crazier than ever, and i think the ending was kind of cut short, but good. <3 hope u love it too!!!!!!!!

I’ve been reading Private for 2 years now (needless to say, I had some catching up to do in 2009 since the series started in 2007) and now I’m caught up up to date, feeling iffy about the whole which concept but that’s besides the point.
Josh and Thomas in the web series looked NOTHING like how they were described in the book. I was extremely disappointed by the webshow! I’m not surprised that it never got finished XD They need to be serious about it and really think about who should play who. For one, make Noelle tall with dark brown hair and curvy, not short with blonde hair and hand always in the air because apparently she totes a purse around all the time. Arianna needs to be shorter (prettier) blue eyes…I mean, there were so many things wrong about it! They didn’t force Reed into Billings she started out in Pemberly and saw Noelle through the window. I mean, if you’re gonna have bad acting, at least keep the plot the same.
I’m glad I found Chord in Glee rather than Private because I feel like I may have been turned off by him despite the fact that he really didn’t say anything in the 7min episode.
Just finished reading Cruel Love and gotta say i feel sorry for Jasper he was my favourite guys in the Privilege series and he really loved her, wished he had a better ending.

still reading your books. I used to love reed but now she’s just a helpless whiny character and I was going to be happy to see ariana kill her off. I mean I know you couldn’t have really killed reed considering most people like her so much but come on! couldn’t you have let Ariana just run off to wherever with Jasper and have a happy ending? I mean come on it was what? a six book series? and you just decide to kill off the main character? seriously this book just got me mad I was so disappointed. actually i was hoping you’d make another book where Ariana really didn’t die, but since your acknowledgements sounded pretty final, it depressed me all over again. but I still really wish you would make another book. it sounds like a lot of people wanted Ariana to have a good ending, and by killing her you’re just disappointing all of them. anyway, I just really wish you had ended this differently. the private series is already kind of ruined for me, but until this ending the privilege series was definitely still my favorite of any series. anyway it was just disappointing.

In all the other books you made him perfect, but in this one you made him sound like the jerk that he isn’t. I also would have liked an Epilogue for Jasper and all the friends… But oh well. I agree with this completely…. what happened to sexy Palmer from Priveilgee why all of a sudden did Kate make him the “bad guy” he clearly isn’t one idk why is this book she tried to make him sound like this awful person, when he had every right to be suspicious of ariana considering who she is AND hello! Omigosh, thank you! I was beginning to think I was the only one. I mean Palmer was PERFECT and she made us fall inlove with him from the first moment he entered the series. Now, she has him acting like the bad guy which he isn’t. It made me so mad, because Palmer wouldn’t do any of what she said he was doing. And I guess it was okay that they broke up, because if there was an epilogue, he would be living a happy life and he would’ve found out that she was a crazy murderer. Usually in the other books I would be voting for Arianna… but not in this one. She got what she deserved.

Your right, between when she got out of prison and when she died she killed a total of five people (Brianna Leigh, Kaitlyn, VERY SHORTLY AFTER, Kiran, Lexa, Dr. Meloni and almost Reed). Little psycho was on a roll! But really, as sad as the ending was, she most definitely could have gotten the death penalty if she hadn’t died in the hospital and they’d just arrested her.
Yeahh, in total, how many people has she killed? Wasn’t it three before the Brenda T and five after? Yeahh, I dont think there was anyway she could’ve gotten out of this. I used to kind of symphathize with her in the other books (I don’t know why npw, probably because I loved the books and she’s the main character) but she really showed her true paranoid, psychotic, serial killer-ness in this book. It was just crazy, Palmer was right all along.

Honestly, I think you guys are alittle hard on Kate with the ending. If we think logically (SPOILER) either Reed or Ariana was going to go… would you rather it have been Reed? The one who FINALLY has a peaceful life at an elite college away from all the billings insanity, where she actually has cool friends and a long-term stable relationship with Josh Hollis. Would you really want to take that all away from her because of Ariana’s life long grudge on Reed. Whom she has no reason to hate so much. Ariana was a very troubled character and that’s what made her so great at times. I feel throughout the whole series this was being built up. Like after all the deaths she created Kiran, Brigit(ik she didnt kill her but if she hadn’t let kaitlynn escape BT with her she wouldn’t of died), Lexa… it was honestly time for her to go, in reality she wouldn’t have even lasted as long as she did

So, to fully answer your question haha she was being sarcastic.. but there was most likely a hint of truth to it as well

@Abrielle although noelle didn’t really forgive arianna, i think she still saw her as the girl she shared good and bad times with. but ultimately, i was glad she chose reed.
I don’t care how high on hieorn you are, you should still know that murdering children is WRONG!!! She is just as guilty as he is I hope justice is served for both of those sweet babies.

I just finished cruel love and i freaking cried. oh my god. that was such a beautiful, powerful ending. Who knew reed even had it in her? oh my god when they went to the scene of graduation at the end i started crying. jesus. i dont know what im going to do when vengeance ends i’ll probably bawl like a baby. I honestly will miss ariana a little bit. but she had it coming. that ending was so fdhgks i can’t even explain it someone help me out here? gawd. I cant believe private and privilege are coming to an end these are practically my babies and idk what i’ll do without them. I’m speechless right now I can’t.
Yaa but like noelle and reed have been friends and then best friends and then sisters for idk how long at that point in cruel love .. And ariana and noelle knew eachother for four years .. Plus we don’t really know when they became best friends.. So idk .. And if she did mean it why did she gerk her hand away so fast ? And with the noelle killing ariana thing I didn’t mean the shooting I meant the actual death .. Like pulling a tube she needed or something , kinda like what ariana did to lexa (SPOILER)
I think that considering how it said something like “Noelle gritted her teeth and forced a smile” she probably only said “Of course Ariana, you’ll always be my best friend,” because she knew that Ariana was gonna be dead in like a minute, so what the hell, why not make it an okay last minute. But Ariana had just tried to Noelle’s sister and since Noelle’s found out Reed’s her sister she’s been extra protective and sweet with her so she must have been reeeeeally pissed about Ariana trying to kill her. I figured that there was a small part of Noelle that still felt some affection for Ariana but Noelle smart she was probably thinking like “You are SO much more psychotic/insane than I thought you were, you tried to kill my little sister/real best friend, you deserve to die!” I don’t know, that’s just the impression I got.

Noelle loathed Ariana for what she did cause remember she didnt just destroy her own life by getting arrested she destroyed noelles cause noelle was held back a year and everything and if you remember in legacy when noelle came back she looked around her old room kinda with a remorse look on her face like how could I have ever thought my best friend wasn’t a raging psycho?! she never forgave her for what she did.

Reed had shot Ariana right in the chest (pretty darn sensitive area to be shot in, obviously caused a lot of damage) and she was already pretty injured around her waist. I don’t think Noelle had anything to do with Ariana dying (anyway Palmer and at least one of the doctors were in the room). I think she probably WANTED to kill Ariana but I don’t think she was ever alone in the room with her.

No she didnt kill ariana. Ariana was already dying because she got shot in the chest by ariana. i.e. where your heart is located. Noelle had nothing to do with it but as you saw, she didnt really do anything to stop her from dying because she knew all the damage ariana had already done. and wait Palmer?! he was in the room? I thought it was Jasper, but yeah Noelle has a lot of power, but i doubt she could kill someone with people in the room

Your last question is another ome I wondered.. How come ariana , NEVER mentioned sabine … I know they were only half sisters but like you think she would of mentioned her sometime in the privelidged series … :S
if sabine was your sister and vice versa would you want to mention her? haha lol and they mentioned her in last christmas when thomas made her breakfast and he was like no brothers or sisters and she like didnt answer and it said “i wasn’t going to go there” or whatver so yeah.
That was weird though, because especially after Sabine confesses to having tortured Reed, Ariana’s her sister, etc, she seemed to really care about Ariana and from she’d said, you’d think that they were (relatively) close. Maybe it was kind of one-sided? Like Sabine cared about Ariana and Ariana was like, whatever, just don’t call me? There was the one brief mention of her in the first private book though when Ariana was googling stuff about herself, it said something like “there was a brief mention of that awful mess at Easton last year with her sister… obviously insanity runs in the family.” And she gets kind of pissed by that part and there was a second when she wanted to call and say, you’re supposed to report, not say my family is insane.
yeah pretty much idt ariana cared that much about sabine she just wanted her to go to the school to ruin reeds life which she did pretty well yaknow. i’ll never understand that whole sabine/ariana thing cause honestly doesnt really do a good job at explaining.

I have to say that I blame Thomas for Ariana going crazy and killing so many people. I mean like in Last Christmas she killed Melissa and Sergei to keep her relationship with Thomas a secret.

When Ariana as Emma Walsh came to stay at BriannaLeigh’s house, she Googled her name and it said, “There was one about Sabine and the mess at Easton two years before, with the author dryly commenting that insanity must run in DNA.” Arianna never directly mentioned her though.
oh, and i just thought of something else. in Last Christmas Thomas asked Arianna if she had any siblings and she acted all cagey and avoided answering. so i guess Arianna and Sabine’s relationship is crazy, because Arianna ignores her existance, and Sabine commits murder and oes to crazy lengths to get vengeance for Arianna.
